Many people have asked us what our name means, how it is pronounced, how we came up with a name like CaTwa Fitz, what the name has to do with our t-shirt line etc, etc.  It’s so funny how we (as the creators of the name) thought this to be a simple name to pronounce, but that actually isn’t true.  As it turns out, quite a few people get tongue-tied or say it completely wrong altogether.  We laugh about it all the time and have even said that we could teach a class on our name alone, since that seems to be the most frequently asked question (no offense intendedJ).  We hope to cover all of your questions today, so here we go . . . . .

Trade marking your name and logo design can be a painful experience.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with the process, it can get quite complicated and if you aren’t careful, quite costly; particularly when choosing a name that is original, doesn’t sound similarly confusing to any other brand, isn’t hard to pronounce, sounds exciting and motivating, paying particular attention to the way it affects how others view you and ultimately, choosing a name that represents what our short-term and long-term goal is (which for us, is expanding to a larger clothing line for womyn – this is not a typo J).

Having said all of that, we pondered over dozens of names (literally) and the first name that we came up with was “In Touch”.  Unfortunately, that name was already taken by a company who creates greeting cards and is owned by a major brand.  Needless to say, we didn’t want to make the same mistake twice, so it took us approximately 2-3 months to come up with a name that we were solid with.  CaTwa Fitz (pronounced kuh-twah) is simply a combination of the founders’ names.  Trust us; we did not use any difficult formula to achieve this.

After going through countless names on the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) website, just to find the names we were coming up with were already taken, we decided to go a different route.  We jotted down our first and last names and started putting them together (sort of like putting the pieces of a puzzle together until it’s complete).  Hence, the second part of our name, Fitz.  Our names fit together like a piece of a puzzle.  Which then gave us our idea for a logo design – we are a piece of the puzzle, but not just any puzzle, a “global puzzle” and we want to connect to other puzzle pieces that help complete this world (get it)???

BUT, the explanation behind the name is two part, in that, fitz is also short for outfits.  Since we will eventually be expanding our clothing line to a full store, why not make that a part of our name.  We wanted to be even more original by using a ‘z’ at the end rather than a ‘s’ and to follow our name with a tag line that sounds bold and demanding (just like we are).   So there you have it!  We really do like the ring or the zing to our name (it sounds kinda Frenchie and the tone it sets is classy).  Just like our t-shirt line, our name is creative, non-traditional, unique and timeless — All the more reason to say . . . . .  it’s a keeper!
